The Women's Law Center's free hotline answers questions about family law. Experienced family law attorneys staff the hotline. While the hotline attorney cannot represent you in court, they will provide basic information to help you understand your rights and tell you about other community resources that may offer additional support. Hotline services are free, anonymous, and available to all, regardless of gender.
Family Law Hotline attorneys will give you basic information about Maryland family law to help you understand your rights and legal options. The lawyer can answer your questions about:
- Separation
- Divorce
- Custody and visitation
- Child support
- Marital property
- Alimony
- Paternity
- Name change
- Guardianship
You can call the hotline as often as you need! Be advised that due to high call volume, hotline services are limited to brief conversations.
While the hotline is free and open to all, attorneys will ask about your income and collect other basic information.

The Collateral Legal Assistance for Survivors Project (CLAS), WLC's newest direct representation project, was founded in 2016. It offers holistic legal services to survivors of intimate partner violence in areas such as divorce, custody, and protective orders. CLAS promotes family and financial stability and decreases the likelihood of survivors returning to violent relationships.
The Judicare Project provides low-income litigants in Baltimore County with free legal representation in divorce and/ or child custody cases. The WLC screens potential clients for eligibility. Clients accepted into the program are provided with an attorney free of charge.
